Edmonton Oilers forward Zach Hyman and his family are buying the Brantford Bulldogs of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), according to TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger.
The sale is pending OHL approval and an official announcement is expected on Monday, according to Dreger.
The team, formed in 1981 as the Belleville Bulls, became the Hamilton Bulldogs when it was bought by Ottawa Senators owner Michael Andlauer in 2015.
In 2023, the team was relocated to Brantford, and late last year, city council expressed support for a new $140-million arena and concert venue that would serve as a long-term home for the Bulldogs and also help revitalize the city’s downtown.
The Bulldogs won OHL championships in 2018 and 2022.
Hyman is from Toronto and played for the Maple Leafs between 2015 and 2021. He was originally drafted by the Panthers in 2010.
In 2021, he signed a seven-year deal with the Edmonton Oilers and now regularly plays alongside Connor McDavid.
He also hit several milestones during the Oilers’ run for the cup in 2024.
