By dominating the time of possession, the Yorktown High School ice-hockey club team defeated host Fauquier/Patriot, 4-1, at Haymarket Iceplex to cap the first half of its regular season.
Yorktown took 65 shots on goal in the win and allowed only nine.
After Fauquier/Patriot opened the scoring, Roger Allenbaugh broke through with a goal for Yorktown midway through the first period to tie the match at 1. Yorktown took a 2-1 lead in the second period when a shot from Jamie Hardie found the back of the net.
The offensive barrage continued into the third period, with Yorktown taking control when a shot from Peyton Tien was deflected into the net by Bennett Haas for a 3-1 lead. Haas got his second goal of the night when he deflected in another shot, this one from Andrew Olsen.
The Yorktown goals came on assists from Tien, Allenbaugh, Alex Olsen, Andrew Olsen and Stewart Bream. Brendan Thompson got the victory in goal.
The rest of the Yorktown lineup consisted of Henry Dwyer, Logan McGraw, Matthew Hamrick, Nolan Garcia, William O’Sullivan, Andrew Levine, Benson Kluger, Matthew Herzfeld, Will Schryver, John Chistolini and Nathan Lowenstein.
Yorktown improved to 4-1 and is tied for first in the Smythe Division of the Northern Virginia Scholastic Hockey League. Yorktown resumes play Jan. 3.
NOTE: Yorktown’s junior-varsity ice-hockey club team finished the first half of regular season play 5-0.
