The NHL’s 4 Nations Face-Off begins this week as Canada, Sweden, Finland and the United States compete in a unique seven-game round-robin tournament featuring the world’s best hockey players.
Three players from the Nashville Predators will participate in the tournament: forward Filip Forsberg (Sweden), forward Gustav Nyquist (Sweden) and goaltender Juuse Saros (Finland).
Here’s what else to know about the 4 Nations Face-Off.
A one-time replacement for the NHL’s usual All-Star break, the 4 Nations Face-Off pits Canada, Sweden, Finland and the United States in an eight-day, “best-on-best” tournament to showcase hockey’s elite talent.
The tournament was announced by NHL commissioner Gary Bettman in 2024 as a first step in the league’s return to international play, including its intention to allow players to participate in the 2026 Olympics.
Seven games are on the schedule — each team will play each other once, followed by a one-game championship between the top two teams. Teams get three points for a regulation win, two points for an overtime or shootout win, one point for an overtime or shootout loss, and zero points for a regulation loss.
Rosters for each team were unveiled slowly during the past several months. In all, 92 players will participate in the tournament.
Other notable players include Nathan MacKinnon, Connor McDavid and Sidney Crosby for Team Canada; Auston Matthews, Jack Eichel and Connor Hellebuyck for Team USA; Mika Zibanejad, Mattias Ekholm and Elias Pettersson for Team Sweden; and Aleksander Barkov, Patrik Laine, and Roope Hintz for Team Finland.
Full rosters can be found here.
Games will be hosted at the Bell Centre in Montreal and at TD Garden in Boston.
The games on Feb. 12 (Canada vs Sweden), Feb. 13 (USA vs Finland) and Feb. 15 (Finland vs Sweden; USA vs Canada) will be at the Bell Centre.
The final three games on Feb. 17 (Canada vs Finland; Sweden vs USA) and the championship game on Feb. 20 will be at TD Garden.
All seven games of the 4 Nations Face-Off will be televised on various outlets. Here’s the full schedule:
