The Detroit Red Wings get set for a marquee matchup with their rivals on Wednesday night, as they prepare to take on the Toronto Maple Leafs. You can travel alongside the team to the hockey mecca of the world for affordable prices.
The rivalry between the Red Wings and Maple Leafs dates back almost 100 years, when Detroit (then known as the Cougars) faced off with Toronto. Since then, the two sides have met 807 times, meeting in some epic postseason clashes and exciting regular-season battles. The two Original Six franchises might not have been in the same division for over a decade, but the animosity has persisted into the modern day, with the teams among the best in the Atlantic Division.
The two teams are set to face off on Wednesday night in The Six, with both teams challenging for a playoff spot in the ever-competitive Eastern Conference.
The Red Wings will be coming off a meeting with the other team from Ontario, the Ottawa Senators, on Sunday. Detroit is right in the thick of the race for first place in the division, fighting it out with the Tampa Bay Lightning.
On the other side, the Maple Leafs are simply trying to get into a Wild Card spot. Following a win over the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday and a loss to the Minnesota Wild a couple of days ago, Toronto is just two points back of eighth place in the East.
The Leafs are 361-346-93-7 all-time against the Wings, though Detroit came away with an overtime win at home on Dec. 28.
