The Detroit Red Wings finish up their road trip on Saturday night in the Windy City, as they get set to take on the Chicago Blackhawks.
The Red Wings are hoping to finish their six-game road set on a high note. Things started off inauspiciously, blowing a third-period lead in a shootout loss. Yet, when the team headed West, Detroit found some success. The Wings reeled off three wins in a row, taking down the Seattle Kraken, Vancouver Canucks and Calgary Flames.
The three-game win streak pushed Detroit back to the top of the Atlantic Division, restoring optimism in Hockeytown. However, the party was brought down a notch on Thursday night, when the Red Wings fell to a rested Edmonton Oilers team, losing 4-1, ending the team’s six-game point streak.
The Wings come into Saturday night third in the Atlantic, one point out of first place.
After a hot start to the campaign, the Blackhawks have stumbled a little, pushing them outside of the playoff picture. Following a couple of lopsided defeats at the hands of the Los Angeles Kings and Anaheim Ducks, Chicago picked up a 3-0 win over the New York Rangers on Thursday night.
The Hawks are one point back of the last Wild Card spot in the Western Conference.
These Original Six rivals met in Detroit in early November, with the Hawks skating away with a 5-1 win.
