A couple of the greatest players in the game today continue their quest to punch their ticket back to the Stanley Cup Playoffs as the Edmonton Oilers pay a visit to the New Jersey Devils on Thursday night.
The Oilers are hoping they can bounce back after a disappointing loss on Monday night at hands of the dwindling Buffalo Sabres. It ended a short two-game win streak for Edmonton, who is entering game two of a four-game road trip against the Tri-State area teams.
The Devils have been slumping as well. With the loss of star forward Jack Hughes, things were looking bleak for New Jersey prior to winning their last two games.
The Oilers are trying to keep up with the Vegas Golden Knights in the race for the Pacific Division title. Coming into Thursday, Edmonton is second in the division, five points back of the Golden Knights.
The Devils remain safe from the Eastern Conference Wild Card picture. While they are 18 points back of the Washington Capitals for first place in the Metropolitan Division, New Jersey is six points ahead of the fourth-place Columbus Blue Jackets.
This is the second and final meeting of the season between the two teams. The Devils beat the Oilers back in November by a final score of 3-0.
