Sabres vs. Hurricanes: The matchup
Carolina paces the Eastern Conference’s Metropolitan Division with a 30-15-4 record and 54 points this season while leading the East in scoring with 171 goals. The Hurricanes enter Monday having won back-to-back games over the New Jersey Devils (4-1) and Florida Panthers (9-1) by a combined 13-2 margin, most recently riding a hat trick from Andrei Svechnikov to the road win over the Devils on Saturday night.
The Sabres’ scorching momentum has slowed as the calendar flips to January, but they are still 15-2-1 over their past 18 games and they come off an overtime loss to the Minnesota Wild (5-4) on Saturday. Buffalo sits in fifth place in the East’s Atlantic Division with its 26-16-5 record and 57 points, while also claiming the sixth-best record in the East. Center Tage Thompson continues to pace the Sabres with his 25 goals, 25 assists and 50 points.
