The top two teams in the country get set for a marquee matchup on Saturday night, as the Michigan Wolverines take on the Michigan State Spartans in Hockeytown.
These two in-state foes have been going at it on the ice since 1922. They have had many exciting and fierce battles over the years, making any time the Spartans and Wolverines face off must-see television.
However, it does not get bigger than the two teams being the top two programs in the country.
In the Duel in the D series, Michigan leads Michigan State, 19-13-5, though the Spartans have won the last two meetings at LCA.
The Wolverines enter the week atop the charts, riding a seven-game win streak after sweeping the Ohio State Buckeyes last weekend, and beating the Spartans in overtime in Ann Arbor on Friday night.
The Spartans also picked up a couple of big wins last weekend, beating the Penn State Nittany Lions both indoors and at Beaver Stadium. Like its rival, Michigan State had won six games in a row, having not lost since falling to Ohio State on Jan. 10.
These two rivals met back in December with the Wolverines beating the Spartans in East Lansing, before MSU returned the favor at Yost the following night.
Michigan is 181-145-24 against Michigan State.
