Lightning vs. Stars: The matchup
The Lightning are tied atop the Eastern Conference’s Atlantic Division with their 29-13-4 record and 62 points, along with the second-best scoring differential (+43) and second-fewest goals allowed (119) in the NHL. Tampa Bay had an 11-game winning streak snapped Friday night by the Blues in St. Louis, but still picked up a point after the 3-2 setback in a shootout. The Lightning scored twice in the second period to come back from a 2-2 deficit, but allowed the only goal of the shootout to the Blues’ Jordan Kyrou.
The Stars sit in second place in the West’s Central Division behind the Colorado Avalanche with their 27-12-9 record and 63 points. But Dallas is also trying to work its way out of a rough patch with a 2-5-4 record over its past 11 games and a 2-1 loss Thursday night in Utah to wrap up a six-game road trip. The Mammoth scored the game-winner with 15:57 remaining, less than two minutes after Mikko Rantanen pulled the Stars even.
