Lightning vs. Capitals: The matchup
The Capitals return to their home ice after taking back-to-back wins over the New York Rangers (1-0) and New York Islanders (4-2) on the road. Washington netminder Charlie Lindgren starred in the victory over the Rangers at Madison Square Garden on Sunday, stopping all 35 shots he faced en route to his first shutout of the season. That win came on the heels of another good win over the Islanders, in which Aliaksei Protas scored two goals and assisted on another in a standout effort.
The Caps are early betting favorites (-130) in this one as they welcome a Lightning team that defeated the Boston Bruins team (4-3) that handed Washington its only loss of the season. That victory started with a pair of Anthony Cirelli goals in the first period as Tampa Bay jumped out to 3-0 and 4-1 leads and pitched a third-period shutout to hold on for a 4-3 win.
