Bruins vs. Avalanche: The matchup
The Avalanche are 5-0-3 on the season with a Western Conference-best 13 points, and they join Pacific Division leader Las Vegas as the league’s only teams to avoid falling in regulation of any game this season. Colorado has earned at least one point in all eight of its contests, with three OT losses and two of those coming in shootouts. On the less optimistic side, the Avs enter Saturday having lost back-to-back games to the Carolina Hurricanes (5-4) and on the road to the Utah Mammoth (4-3).
The Bruins were in Denver last Saturday and dropped a 4-1 decision to the Avalanche despite jumping out to a 1-0 lead just 3:11 into the game. Colorado rattled off four straight goals with two in the first period and two more in the third to slam the door on a 4-1 win. That setback is part of a six-game losing streak for the Bruins, who rank 28th in the NHL in scoring defense (3.67 gpg) and 32nd in shots allowed (260).
