If you’re into the team aspect of the Olympics, Sunday’s Day 9 will be a good day to plop yourself in front of the TV and maybe wonder what happened to all the football.
No Super Bowl or Bad Bunny this Sunday, but there will be plenty of action in Italy. The U.S. and Canada men’s hockey and curling teams will be competing. And for a dose of suspense: Can Mikaela Shiffrin finally end her Olympic medal drought?
Let’s take a look at everything to watch on Day 9.

Time: First run 4 a.m. ET, 10 a.m. in Italy; second run 7:30 a.m. ET, 1:30 p.m. in Italy

What to watch for: Longtime U.S. star Mikaela Shiffrin is still seeking her first medal since the 2018 Winter Olympics after placing 15th out of 18 finishers in the slalom portion of the team combined event Tuesday. She and Breezy Johnson finished fourth. Shiffrin faces tough competition in Sweden’s Sara Hector, who won the giant slalom in Beijing in 2022 and also in a World Cup race last month, and Italy’s Federica Brignone, who claimed the silver medal in 2022.
Time: 10:40 a.m. ET, 4:40 p.m. in Italy
TV: Peacock
What to watch for: The Canadians routed the Czech Republic 5-0 in their first preliminary game on Thursday, then walloped Switzerland 5-1 on Friday. Connor McDavid of the NHL’s Edmonton Oilers leads the team with six points (one goal, five assists). Nathan MacKinnon (Colorado Avalanche) and Macklin Celebrini (San Jose Sharks) lead the team with two goals apiece.
Time: 3:10 p.m. ET, 9:10 p.m. in Italy

What to watch for: The Americans are 2-0 after defeating Latvia and Denmark. The U.S. team is led by Auston Matthews, the Hughes brothers (Quinn and Jack), the Tkachuk brothers (Matthew and Brady) and Jack Eichel. The Americans got a bit of a scare on Saturday, trailing Denmark 2-1 after one period, but they turned it on over the final two periods with five goals en route to a 6-3 win.
Time: First session at 3:05 a.m. ET, 9:05 a.m. in Italy; second session at 1:05 p.m. ET, 7:05 p.m. in Italy
TV: Peacock
What to watch for: The U.S. men, who are 2-2 thus far, will square off against Sweden early in the day and against Norway later. Canada (3-1) faces China in the late window.
Time: 8:05 a.m. ET, 2:05 p.m. in Italy

What to watch for: The U.S. women (3-1) face China. It’s Japan against Korea, Denmark against Italy and Great Britain against Sweden in the other three matchups.

Time: 6 a.m. ET, noon in Italy

What to watch for: Johannes Høsflot Klæbo has been one of the most dominant athletes in these Olympics, and he looks to lead Norway to another gold medal. If he does, Klæbo will break the record for career Winter Olympics gold medals (8) that he tied on Friday. Rebecca Tauber of The Athletic will be on site, delivering the great reporting she’s provided throughout the Games.
Time: Noon ET, 6 p.m. in Italy
TV: Peacock
What to watch for: This will be the debut of the IBSF’s seventh sport in Winter Olympics competition. These are the basics, as laid out by IBSF.org: “One female athlete and one male athlete from the same country will compete together as one team. Racing one straight after the other, they each complete one run, which includes a reaction start element. The two run times will be added together to give each team a total time. The team with the lowest overall time will be the winners.”
