Team USA is red, white and blue. Team Canada is red and white. On the final day of the 2026 Winter Olympics, one of them will be golden.
It’s the final day of the winter games and the men’s gold medal hockey match serves as the last event before the closing ceremony. The contest promises to be the next chapter in a rivalry that went to another level during the 4 Nations Face-Off in 2025. Connor McDavid won that game for the Canadians in overtime, keeping his nation at the top of the hockey world.
Now the Americans will seek revenge on the world stage. Led by Matthew and Brady Tkachuk, Team USA will have a key weapon they didn’t the last time around – Quinn Hughes. The star defenseman has been a key contributor for the red, white and blue throughout the Olympics, headlined by his game-winning overtime goal against Sweden in the quarterfinals.
This time, all eyes are on Team Canada’s captain, Sidney Crosby, who missed the semifinal game against Finland with injury. It’s unclear if he will suit up in the gold medal match.
Neither team has taken the easy road to this point, despite facing little resistance in the round-robin before the tournament began.
Now just one game stands in the way of making history and winning not only a gold medal, but also Olympic bragging rights for the next four years.
