The curtain is about to rise on the 2025 IIHF Men’s World Championship finale, and it’s Team USA squaring off against Switzerland on Sunday with gold on the line and bragging rights up for grabs.
This showdown is a classic clash of styles. Coming off a dominant 6-2 victory over Sweden on Saturday, the Americans bring a youthful spark and NHL star power that jumps right off the page.
The roster reads like a prospect watchlist gone wild—Clayton Keller, Logan Cooley, Frank Nazar, Will Smith, Shane Pinto, Matty Beniers—the future is now. Throw in seasoned pros like Tage Thompson, Zach Werenski, Brady Skjei, Conor Garland, and Jeremy Swayman between the pipes, and this team has firepower in spades.

But make no mistake, this group isn’t just playing for pride. The stars and stripes haven’t captured World Championship gold since 1993, and that drought is etched deep into the team’s psyche. They’re not just chasing a medal—they’re chasing history.
Switzerland is still chasing its first-ever world championship title, but they’ve made a statement loud and clear with their semifinal performance (7-0 win over Denmark).
Nino Niederreiter lit the lamp twice in the opening frame, while Ken Jäger chipped in with another to give the Swiss an early grip on the game. Denis Malgin kept the pressure on in the second with Switzerland’s fourth goal, before Sandro Schmid, Damien Riat, and Tyler Moy piled on three more in the final period to complete a 7-0 dismantling of Denmark.
Between the pipes, Leonardo Genoni was rock-solid once again, turning aside all 17 shots he faced to notch his second consecutive shutout. With momentum firmly in their favor, Switzerland will be hoping to make history in the gold medal clash.
