More underdogs are making Frozen Four appearances. Penn State, a team that was just the fourth-ranked squad in the Main region, punched its ticket to St. Louis.
The Nittany Lions crushed No. 3 Maine, 5-1, before taking down UConn, 2-1, in overtime. This will be the team’s first Frozen Four appearance in history.

It won’t be an easy one, as Boston University waits on the other side. Although the Terriers weren’t a ranked team, they were the second squad in the Toledo region. They beat Ohio State, 8-3, before downing Cornell, 3-2, in overtime.
Boston University has multiple key victories this season, including winning the 2025 Beanpot. The Terriers also have a lot of postseason experience. This is their 25th overall and third straight Frozen Four appearance. The former is the third most all-time behind Michigan and Boston College.
The Terriers also have five national championships with their last coming in 2009.
