Four Green Knights score their first career goal in 13-1 road win over the Cougars
Rice High School boys’ ice hockey ended off 2023 on a very high note.
The Green Knights came to the Rouses Point Civic Center and dominated on both sides of the ice, taking down the Northeastern Clinton Central High School (NCCS) Cougars 13-1.
“It was a team effort out there,” said Rice senior Nathan McDonald. “Everyone was netting some out there. It felt good.”
McDonald was a part of the multiple scorers who contributed on offense, including being one of the four players to earn their first career goals in the victory.
Those four players: juniors John Fernandez and Pierre Heroux, freshman Vincent Lanzetta, and McDonald all say it’s a huge lift off their shoulders being able to score for the first time today.
“Getting my first goal as a freshman is definitely awesome,” Lanzetta said. “I’ve been playing since I was younger, and I have been working hard to prepare for this level. Getting that first goal is always a good mark.”
“This was my first year making the team,” Heroux said. “It was good to finally get that first goal and just continue on with the season.”
Junior Henry Monaghan was also a key piece at goalie, allowing just one goal while saving several shots in the victory.
