After logging 10 games without a tally, Brad Marchand finally etched his name into the record books on Thursday night.
The Bruins captain became the fifth player in Bruins history to score 400 goals with the team during Boston’s road matchup against the Hurricanes, finally securing that sought-after tally just 2:12 into play at PNC Arena.
Bruins wing Morgan Geekie jumpstarted the play, hitting Marchand in stride with a pass from Boston’s blue line after his linemate slipped past Carolina’s Brent Burns and Teuvo Teravainen.
Skating in alone after crossing into Carolina’s end of the ice, Marchand went to the backhand against Hurricanes netminder Frederik Andersen — jamming the biscuit past the goalie while tumbling toward the end boards.

It was a welcome result for Marchand, who last lit the lamp on March 9 against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Marchand entered Thursday’s game with just one goal over his last 19 games.
While skating off toward Boston’s bench after scoring, Marchand pretended to toss the proverbial monkey off his back as a sigh of relief following such an extended scoring slump.

Marchand ranks fifth all-time in Bruins history in career goals scored, trailing only Rick Middleton (402 goals scored), Patrice Bergeron (427), Phil Esposito (459), and Johnny Bucyk (545).
Marchand’s record-setting milestone seemed to give the Bruins a much-needed spark against a sleepy Carolina defense in the first period.
Boston entered the first intermission with a 3-0 lead — with the Bruins padding their lead in the opening frame off a pair of tallies from David Pastrnak and Danton Heinen. The Hurricanes entered Thursday’s matchup against Boston with back-to-back shutout wins.
