Two of the National Hockey League’s top teams will tangle at Rogers Center in Edmonton, Alberta, on Tuesday night.
The Washington Capitols, which top all NHL teams with 67 points, will open a five-game road trip against the Oilers (29-14-3, in the Pacific Division), one of six teams with at least 60 points.
They’ll drop the puck at 9:30 p.m. ET and you can watch it on ESPN+ (packages start at $11.99).
The Capitols (31-10-5, in the Metropolitan Division) have been the surprise of the league this season. Yes, they were expected to be good but not this good.
They are 7-0-3 in their last 10 games and practically invincible even don’t he road, at 15-6-1.
Washington won its fourth straight on Saturday night, 4-1 over the Penguins, as Jakob Chychrun, Aliaksei Protas and Pierre-Luc Dubois scored and Logan Thompson made 18 saves.
Thompson came up just short of becoming the first player in franchise history to record three shutouts in a row, when he allowed Bryan Rust to score midway through the third period. His shutout streak ended at 198 minutes, 22 seconds, the longest in the league this season and third in team history.
Brandon Duhaime sealed it with an empty-netter with 1:30 left.
Dylan Strome has 12 goals and 34 assists for the Capitals while Tom Wilson has scored five goals with four assists over the past 10 games.
Thompson is having a phenomenal season: 25 starts, 21-2-0-3 record and a 2.09 goals-against average.
Edmonton is 8-2 in its last 10 and tough to beat at home, at 15-7-1.
The Oilers lost to the struggling Vancouver Canucks 3-2 on Saturday night.

Leon Draisaitl scored twice for the Oilers, and leads the NHL with 33 goals. Stuart Skinner stopped 24 shots as Edmonton saw its four-game winning streak snapped.
It also lost three-time NHL MVP Connor McDavid for three games for cross-checking Vancouver’s Conor Garland in the head. His suspension will start tonight against the Capitols.
Tuesday’s game is the first time these teams square off this season.
