CHICO — The Pleasant Valley High field hockey team outlasted cross-town rival Chico High 2-1 in a back-and-forth match held Wednesday at Chico High School.
“As always, we feel lucky that we have a rivalry game, that our athletes get to experience this type of intensity, and challenge their physical and mental play,” said Chico coach Kim Musselman in an email. “Unfortunately for us, we weren’t able to pull off the win tonight, but proud of how well my team held each other up and fought ’till the end.”
The Vikings scored first in the first quarter, but the Panthers tied the game at 1-1 on a short corner. Addison Hosier took the hit from the top of the circle, and Siena Mullins scored after a spin and a shot past the PV goalkeeper.
PV then got its second goal to start the second half, and Chico was unable to tie it up despite multiple offensive chances.
“I told them with two minutes left that their job was to keep the ball in our offensive end the entire two minutes, and either get a corner or a goal,” Musselman said. “They got three corners in a row, the last with time expired on the clock, and unfortunately just couldn’t put it in, a valiant effort nonetheless.”
Chico goalkeeper Adeline Ison made 13 saves in the loss.
No stats were provided by Pleasant Valley.
