Vancouver edged out the Sharks 3-2, improving to 32-26-12 this season. The Canucks were favored on the puck line and the total was set at 6.5 goals, but the combined score of 5 fell short of that mark. All the scoring took place after the first period, with Pius Suter’s second goal of the game breaking a 2-2 tie with just 26 seconds left.
After the Sharks scored first in the second period, the Canucks responded with three unanswered goals. Vancouver’s defense allowed the Sharks to tie it up again, but Suter’s late goal secured the win.
Pius Suter led the way for the Canucks with two goals, including his third and fourth of the season. He scored the first Canucks goal at 5:19 in the second period and later netted the game-winner with just 26 seconds left. Jake DeBrusk added his first goal of the season at 4:22 in the third period.
Vancouver took 27 shots on goal but also had 25 giveaways. The Canucks were held scoreless in the first period before Suter’s first goal tied the game at 1-1 in the second.
Defensively, the Canucks will look to improve after giving up the first goal of the game at 2:37 into the 2nd period and another at 18:43 in the 3rd. Kevin Lankinen made 21 saves with a 91.3% save percentage, and the defense added 5 takeaways and 24 hits.
The Rangers improved to 33-31-6 with a 5-2 win over the Islanders. Entering the game as -1.5 goal favorites, New York covered the puck line. The total was set at 6 goals, and the combined 7 goals surpassed that mark.
Four different players scored for the Rangers, with Artemi Panarin leading the way with two goals. The Rangers took a 2-0 lead before the Islanders scored, but New York responded with three more goals to secure the victory.
Artemi Panarin found the net twice for the Rangers, including his 9th goal on an empty net and his 8th on a power play. Chris Kreider kicked off the scoring with his 8th goal, coming on a shorthanded play. Vincent Trocheck added his 4th goal, while Adam Edstrom netted his 1st of the season.
Mika Zibanejad contributed with 8 assists on the year, picking up two more in this game. The Rangers fired 40 shots on goal and had 14 giveaways.
Defensively, the Rangers will look to carry over their strong finish from the previous game, where they shut out the Islanders in the 3rd period. Igor Shesterkin made 35 saves with a 94.6% save percentage. The Rangers’ defense also added 10 takeaways, 19 hits, and 18 blocks.
For a moneyline pick, I’m taking the Rangers to pick up on a win over the Canucks at home. With the moneyline sitting at -149, I’ll be locking in a bet on the Rangers straight-up.
For a puck line prediction, our preference is the Rangers to secure a win and cover. Anticipate the Rangers to win this one by multiple goals over the Canucks.
When considering the over/under line, which is currently at 5.5 goals, we believe that this game will go over that threshold, and we recommend wagering on the over.
