BOISE, Idaho — This story originally appeared in the Idaho Press.
Preseason NHL action will return to downtown Boise.
The Utah Mammoth announced Tuesday that they will play the Los Angeles Kings on Sept. 30 at Idaho Central Arena. The game is slated to start at 7 p.m.
Utah will be the designated home team for the game.
It will be the second NHL preseason game the arena has hosted in four years, with the Vegas Golden Knights acting as the home team for a game against the Arizona Coyotes in 2022. Vegas won that game 5-1.
The in-area presentation gave a bit of the feel of a home game at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, with the Golden Knights bringing their P.A. announcer to Boise.
In April 2024, the NHL approved the sale of the Coyotes’ hockey assets to Utah Jazz owner Ryan Smith, who then used those assets to start an expansion franchise in Salt Lake City. They played the 2024-25 season as the Utah Hockey Club, announcing the Mammoth name and branding in May.

Idaho Steelheads season ticket holders will have first rights to reserve their seats for the preseason game, with a presale beginning July 15. Information regarding tickets for the general public will be announced following the presale.
