Washington enters Sunday with the NHL’s second-best record, powered by elite play on both ends of the ice. The Capitals rank second in goals per game (3.56) and goals allowed (2.46), while also boasting the league’s fourth-best penalty kill (83.1%).
They’ll face a Utah Hockey Club playing its 5th game in 7 days, including back-to-back road matchups. Meanwhile, Washington is well-rested, last playing Thursday. That’s a huge advantage for a team already dominant.
Ovechkin remains red-hot, scoring in 4 straight games—his 34th career streak of that length. The Capitals have earned at least 1 point in 17 of their last 18 games (12-1-5).
These 2 teams met earlier this season, and it wasn’t close, with Washington cruising to a 6-2 road win. With the heavy scheduling disadvantage for Utah, expect another strong performance from the Capitals in what should be a one-sided matchup.
