The U.S. women’s hockey team is moving on to the gold medal game for the fifth straight Olympics, and this time, they’re doing it in record-breaking fashion.
After a 5-0 demolition of Sweden in the bronze medal game, Team USA has now logged five consecutive shutouts going back to its opening game and is outscoring opponents 31-1. The U.S. has scored over five goals in every game while nearly every player has logged points, and now, they are one game away from bringing home the first gold medal since 2018.
On Monday, second period goals from Abbey Murphy, Hayley Scamurra and Laila Edwards in rapid pace made the game a blowout in the middle frame. While Sweden had its fair share of chances, especially in the second, it was no match for the high-octane American team.
