Buckle up!
Four players in this game have experience scoring the overtime game-winner between USA and Canada at Women’s Worlds.
Danielle Serdachny scored the golden goal in 2024 and Marie-Phillip Poulin did so in 2021.
Go back to 2017 and Hilary Knight scored the gold-medal clinching goal, while Alex Carpenter won it in 2016.
This is the ninth time the gold-medal game at the Women's World Championships will be decided in overtime (it's also been decided in a shootout twice, but that's no longer possible in the final).
Canada holds a 5-3 advantage over the U.S. in gold-medal overtime games.

Thanks to Fillier’s tying goal, this one is headed to overtime. Next goal wins, who will score it? For Team Canada, the obvious answer is Captain Clutch. Poulin is always the safe bet in clutch situations, and her line has been buzzing with Stacey and Gardiner. It would be only be fitting for Stacey to be involved on the game-winner, after her penalty for charging led to USA’s go-ahead goal in the third period. Watts is also one to watch; she doesn’t have a goal today but has had some great looks.
On the USA side, Harvey has been super involved in their offense, so she could come up big here. I wonder about someone like Alex Carpenter stepping up too — Tessa Janecke and Hilary Knight have been the shooters on that top line today, but in a 3-on-3 situation, this trio won’t get deployed together. Maybe that pushes her to shoot a little more.

Unlike the other knockout games in this tournament, there will be no shootout in this one. We'll be play 20-minute periods of sudden-death hockey until one team scores.
Overtime may not last super long, however, as it will be played 3-on-3 instead of 5-on-5.

TSN reports that U.S. head coach Wroblewski attempted to challenge Canada's game-tying goal for goaltender interference but wasn't able to as he signaled his decision after the allotted time to do so had expired. It may been a blessing in disguise for the U.S. because, had the challenge failed, Canada would have been given a power play.
