MONTREAL – It is not yet the championship match, but it feels like one for the ages. The United States renews its storied rivalry against Canada in the 4-Nations Face-Off today – Saturday, Feb. 15 – at Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada. The matchup is available on multiple streaming services for free.
Today’s game will broadcast live on ABC with the puck dropping at 8 p.m. Eastern. Fans who have parted ways with their local cable provider can catch the action by utilizing streaming alternatives like FuboTV and DirecTV Stream, which both offer a free trial. Sling TV is also offering promotional discounts for new customers.

The NHL will take a two-week hiatus and there will be no All-Star game this year. Instead, this round-robin, best-on-best international men’s hockey tournament features NHL players from the United States, Canada, Finland and Sweden.
A win in regulation counts as three points, a win in overtime or a shootout counts as two and a loss in overtime or a shootout earns one point. The two teams with the most points at each round will advance to face each other in the championship game.
The games will take place Feb. 12-20 with host cities Montreal, Canada and Boston Massachusetts. USA and Canada are the co-favorites.
This is the headliner that the hockey world has been eagerly eyeing since the inception of the 4-Nations Face-Off.
The Canadians are fresh off a hard-fought overtime victory over Sweden, while the Americans turned on the afterburners to bury an overmatched Finland squad. Canada gets home ice in the final game in Montreal, and that means a frenzied crowd for a historic meeting at the Bell Centre.
The United States (3 points) pulled away from the Finns with a sensational two-goal performance from brothers Matthew and Brady Tkachuk. Team USA poured in four goals in the final 20 minutes to cruise to a 6-1 victory. Hard to believe they trailed 1-0 midway through the first period.
The United States is spearheaded by three-time goal scoring leader Auston Matthews. Matt Boldy and Jake Guentzel both picked up a goal and an assist against Finland.
Zach Werenski had three assists on the blue line.
After letting one slip past early, two-time Vezina Trophy winner Connor Hellebuyck shut down Finland in the opening matchup. He saved 20 of 21 shots for a .952% save percentage.
If the United States defeats Canada in regulation, they will clinch the six points necessary to punch their ticket to the championship game on Feb. 20.

Canada (2 points) needed an overtime dagger from Mitch Marner to escape the Swedes, 4-3. Their offense was on point, but the defense showed signs of weakness. The Canadiens blew multiple two-goal leads.
The Canadian roster is loaded with multiple Harty Trophy winners Sidney Crosby and Connor McDavid. Crosby had three assists in the opener against Sweden, including the game-winner to Marner. Canada also touts MVP Nathan MacKinnon and former Norris Trophy winner Cale Makar. Sam Reinhart’s abilities to score our well documented.
McDavid, Edmonton’s supernova, grew up watching the international scene. Now, he will get a chance to be a part of the USA-Canada rivalry for the first time at the highest level. A Stanley Cup-like feeling unlike any other.
Makar, A Colorado Avalanche staple, is likely to play but is not at 100% as he continues to deal with an illness, making for a sore spot on the back end. The Canadians have already lost defense Shea Theodore for the remainder of the tournament. Travis Sanheim will step into that role.
Both offenses can blitz their opposition, so it will be the defenses that make up the difference in this riveting clash.
All eyes will be on Canadian goalkeeper Jordan Binnington, who allowed multiple slips against the Swedes in the third period. That simply can’t happen against a high-octane United States squad.
In the long history, perhaps the most memorable recent chapter of the rivalry is back in the 2010 Olympics gold-medal game. Canada outlasted the United States in overtime courtesy of Crosby, who scored the golden goal. Crosby is 26-0 in his last 26 international games.
In a rivalry that dates back to 1920, this is the first time since 2014 that the teams will face off with NHL players. They renew their vows tonight in an epic clash in the heart of Canada.
