Team USA is headed back to the Olympic gold medal game for the first time since 2010 after a commanding 6–2 win over Slovakia in the semifinals.
The Americans set the tone early. Dylan Larkin opened the scoring in the first period, and Tage Thompson followed with a power-play blast to give the U.S. a 2–0 lead after one.
From there, the second period belonged to Team USA. Jack Hughes scored twice in a dominant stretch, and Jack Eichel added another just 20 seconds after Hughes’ first of the frame to push the lead to 5–0.
Connor Hellebuyck carried a shutout into the third period before Juraj Slafkovsky and Pavol Regenda found the back of the net for Slovakia.
Brady Tkachuk answered with a breakaway goal to cap the scoring.
Team USA will now face Canada in the gold medal game Sunday at 8:10 a.m. ET.
Team USA heads back to the Olympic hockey gold medal game for the first time since 2010.
It was a massive effort from the Americans today, as they scored six goals against Slovakia, including two from Jack Hughes, and one each from Dylan Larkin, Tage Thompson, Jack Eichel and Brady Tkachuk.
Connor Hellebuyck took a shutout into the third period before yielding two goals from Team Slovakia.
Team USA will meet Team Canada at the men’s hockey gold medal game on Sunday, February 22, beginning at 8:10 a.m. ET.
The two teams met in last year’s 4 Nations, where three fights took place within the first few seconds. Now they will meet in the olympic hockey final for the first time since 2010.
Erik Cernak and Brady Tkachuk are thrown from the game after fighting.

If Team USA holds on to the 5-1 win, they will be guaranteed a medal.
It would be the US men’s hockey team’s first medal since 2010.

Jake Guentzel kicked the puck into the net off his skate, and thus the goal was disallowed, or never called a goal in the first place.

The Slovakian goaltender has been kept on his toes early.
The second semifinal between Team USA and Slovakia is underway, with a ticket to play Canada in the gold medal game up for grabs.
