There may not have been an over/under for the number of fights in Saturday's highly anticipated game between USA and Canada at the 4 Nations Face-Off, but the over likely would have won.
Three fights in the first nine seconds highlighted the opening period, while Connor McDavid and Jake Guentzel each scored goals at high prices as anytime scorers. Guentzel scored his second goal of the game inside the final minute to seal USA's win, 3-1.
Upon puck drop, Matthew Tkachuk and Brandon Hagel dropped the gloves, setting the tone.
Then it was Brady Tkachuk and Sam Bennett duking it out immediately off the ensuing faceoff.
Finally, J.T. Miller and Colton Parayko threw blows after pushing and shoving ensued in front of Canada goaltender Jordan Binnington once he smothered the puck.
What did pay off was McDavid as anytime scorer at +200, when he gave the Canadians a 1-0 lead 5:31 into the game.
The Americans got the equalizer when Guentzel scored nearly five months later, cashing in for those bettors who got him at +300 as any anytime scorer.
Jack Eichel picked up his third assist of the event with the helper on Guentzel's goal, cashing in for those who wagered on him to get at least one point (-200).
Those who wagered a BTTS (both teams to score) in the first period received a nice price of +170.
There wouldn't be any more goals until Guentzel scored his second goal into an empty net with 19 seconds left.
