BLAINE, Minn. – Cannon Thibodeau (Charleston, S.C.) and Nolan Fitzhenry (Andover, Minn.) each scored as the U.S. National Under-17 Team rallied for a 2-1 comeback win, securing its second victory of the NAHL Showcase.
Rochester struck first when Michael Sandruck opened the scoring early in the game.
Team USA kept it close, heading into the second period down just one after killing off three Jr. Americans power plays.
The NTDP flipped the momentum in the middle frame. Finnegan Sears (Medford, Mass.) forced a turnover and fed Cannon Thibodeau, who beat the Rochester goaltender for his first goal of the season.
Seven minutes later, Nolan Fitzhenry picked off a pass in the Rochester zone and buried the go-ahead goal on Jensen Carlstorm, giving Team USA the lead heading into the third.
In the third period, the U.S. National Under-17 Team maintained the stingy defense it had shown all showcase, using blocked shots, timely clears and tight coverage to hold Rochester scoreless in the period.
With the Rochester net empty in the final minutes, Eli Winters (Muskegon, Mich.) came up big with key stops to secure a 2-1 victory for Team USA.
Winters made 28 saves in the third win in a row for the Under-17 team.
The U17s are back on the road next weekend as they take on the Madison Capitols and the Green Bay Gamblers in USHL play. Games will be available on FloHockeyTV.
