FOREST LAKE, Minn. – Despite rallying back from an early two-goal deficit, the U.S. National Under-17 Team fell to the Minnesota Mallards 6-5 in overtime tonight at Forest Lake Sports Center.
The Mallards jumped out to a quick first-period lead with goals from Carson Steinhoff and Kaden Rehberger. Team USA answered when Trevor Daley (Fort Myers, Fla.) took the puck at the top of the circle and fed a streaking Broden McArthur (Dallas, Texas) who buried it to make it 2-1.
Minnesota extended its lead when Solomon Tucker converted on a break to make it 3-1. Moments later however, Finnegan Sears (Medford, Mass.) crashed the net and buried a rebound to cut the deficit to one for the U17s heading into the second.

Moments later, Nolan Fitzhenry (Andover, Minn.) carried it into the high slot, cut to the middle and fired home the go-ahead goal.
The Mallards responded with a Jacob Margaritt tally to tie it heading into the third. Coming out of the intermission, Freddie Schneider (Edina, Minn.) capitalized on a Minnesota turnover and hit Alexander Milojevic (Chicago, Ill.)  in stride for the finish. Minnesota forward Ty Gordon shot quickly evened things at 5-5 and forced overtime.
Overtime went back and forth before the Mallards netted the game-winner to hand the U17s a 6-5 loss.
Eli Winters finished with 23 saves in the loss.
The U17s close out their weekend series Saturday night in Forest Lake. Puck drop against the Mallards is set for 7 p.m. ET at Forest Lake Sports Center.
