The suspect reportedly turned the gun on himself following the shooting at the Dennis M. Lynch Arena in Pawtucket, outside Providence, bringing the death toll to three.
The attack appeared to be a domestic violence incident, with the gunman targeting members of his own family, law enforcement sources told CNN.
The father is believed to have struck his wife during the alleged assault.
Local police said: “It appears that this was a targeted event, that it may be a family dispute.”

It is unclear if either of the victims are related in any way to the shooter.
The hockey match involved a Coventry-Johnston co-op and a St. Raphael-Providence Country Day-North Providence-North Smithfield co-op, according to WJAR.
A North Providence spokesperson said “preliminary information indicates the incident may have involved parent(s) of NP student(s),” CNN reported.
Pawtucket Police Chief Tina Goncalves said cops were probing the shooting as a possible “family dispute” but didn’t confirm the victims’ relationship to the gunman.
Coventry, Saint Raphael Academy, and North Providence, said all their students were safe and accounted for.
The gunfire came from behind one of the team’s benches, the Pawtucket Times reported.
A hero dad grabbed a gun out of the shooter’s hands during the incident, but the suspect pulled out another weapon, according to the outlet.
Everyone inside the arena has been evacuated and police are sweeping the scene.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives announced it was assisting with the investigation and urged the public to stay away.
An employee working at a nearby Walgreens reported that children came running into the store panicking and saying a shooting was underway.
The worker said they were told to close and evacuate the building.
The children ducked for cover and hid inside the store as help arrived, the employee said.
A photographer who was taking pictures of the game described the chaos that unfolded after shots rang out.
“I was tucked in the corner here at the rink taking photos,” Chip DeLorenzo told The Providence Journal.
“All of a sudden, I mean, the typical, you hear multiple firecrackers going off, loud.
“And I didn’t count them, but probably seven or eight shots, maybe more.
“People obviously just like started screaming and freaking out. And as soon as I heard that and I saw the reaction, I realized it wasn’t firecrackers.”
Coventry Superintendent Don Cowart sent an email to families saying there was a “serious reported incident” at the arena.
“Information is still developing, and we are actively working with event staff and local authorities to understand the situation,” Cowart wrote, according to WPRI.
Rhode Island Governor Dan McKee said his office was actively monitoring the shooting, and that the mayor was speaking with law enforcement.
