The new NHL season is right around the corner, and that means we are in for a lot of new jersey designs.
Teams across the league have updated their uniforms or added new alternate jerseys as they prepare for a fresh new slate. Whether that be by bringing back old favourites, taking inspiration from the past, or coming up with a brand-new design, many NHL teams will be looking a little different during the 2024-25 season.
Here is a look at the 10 teams that we know for sure will be showing off new jerseys on the ice this year:
@NHLBruins/X
The Boston Bruins have opted to throw things back with a new set of home and away uniforms for this upcoming season.
This is the third straight season that the Bruins have swapped their home/away, with 2023-24 being their centennial season and reverting to their usual threads last season. It does appear this new design will be the new norm in Boston, however.
@Canes/X
The Carolina Hurricanes have refreshed their away set, moving away from the diagonal “CANES” wordmark that they have worn since 2019.
This new design takes heavy inspiration from the team’s 2023 Stadium Series uniform, which also featured a dual-tone version of the logo. That jersey had a black base, so the team took that design and flipped it to white for their away uniform.
@NHLBlackhawks/X
At first glance, this doesn’t look like a new Chicago Blackhawks jersey, but there have been slight modifications.
This will be the centennial season for the Blackhawks, which means the main logo and numbers will see a gold outline around them. Chicago has also brought back the lace-up collar on their home jersey, something they haven’t done since the 1965-66 season.
@DetroitRedWings/X
The Detroit Red Wings are also celebrating their centennial season this year, and with that comes a brand-new design.
A new third jersey will be worn by the Red Wings this season that pays homage to different eras of the franchise. Everything from the logo to the striping has retro-inspired design features. The leather-coloured captain patches are a nice touch as well.

The Edmonton Oilers haven’t officially released their new third jersey, but a leak hit the internet in early September.
It appears the Oilers will be adding a new white third jersey that features blue and orange striping and squared-off shoulder yokes. The classic Oilers logo is nowhere to be seen, instead being replaced by a brand-new wordmark logo that gives off a vintage feel.
@Senators/X
The Ottawa Senators introduced a red third jersey into the fold, a first since their 2021 reverse retro.
This time around, the design has much more personality, incorporating black and gold shoulder yokes as well as waist and arm stripes. It’s another example of a team opting for the squared shoulders rather than the traditional round design.
@SeattleKraken/X
The Seattle Kraken have gone in a modern direction with their latest foray into third jersey design.
Instead of adopting one of their secondary colours as a base, the Kraken opted to go with a black jersey that features an outlined version of their logo with a menacing red eye. The arm striping is reminiscent of the San Jose Sharks’ “Cali Fin” jersey and the New York Rangers’ current third jersey.
@StLouisBlues/X
Like the Bruins, the St. Louis Blues have decided to change up their home and away kits to something more retro.
After years of fans clamouring for the Blues to adopt a more vintage look, this new set comes into effect this season. It takes heavy inspiration from the team’s 2017 and 2022 Winter Classic looks.
@utahmammoth/x
The Utah Mammoth needed new jerseys simply because they got a new name.
They were formally known as the Utah Hockey Club, but have decided to rename the team to the Mammoth moving forward. With that came a brand-new logo that will don the team’s home jersey.
The away jersey has some tweaks but has remained largely the same as it was during the team’s inaugural season.
@Capitals/X
The Washington Capitals are bringing back a fan favourite, but putting a modern twist on it.
After fans got a taste of the screaming eagle during both of the team’s previous reverse retros, this brand-new design will have a bit more staying power. It combines the iconic logo with the team’s current colour scheme and brings back another old logo as a shoulder patch.
This story will be updated with any further jersey reveals.
