The Philadelphia Flyers made an offseason splash, trading for some much-needed skill and star power in Trevor Zegras. Anaheim traded the 24-year-old forward in exchange for forward Ryan Poehling, a 2025 second-round pick (Eric Nilson), and a 2026 fourth-rounder.
Through eight games of the 2025-26 season, the trade looks like an absolute steal for the Flyers.
Zegras has been that high-IQ, skilled, and creative forward that he always was in Anaheim. During his time with the Ducks, he did not always rack up the points to properly represent his play. This year, he has the production to back it up.
Zegras had been one of the Flyers’ best forwards through the first seven games of the season, but it was Saturday’s game that was the city’s proper introduction to the young forward.
Saturday was what feels like his best game in a long time. Statistically speaking, Zegras has not had a three-point game since January 21st, 2023, when he scored twice and had a primary assist in a Ducks loss to the Buffalo Sabres.
In fact, three points ties his career high in a single game, something he did three times during his rookie season, then twice in 2022-23.
Zegras did it Saturday night with a beautiful assist, a five-on-five snipe, and a power-play goal.
There were many reasons the Flyers were in a position to win that game, including Sam Ersson making the stops necessary when the team needed him the most. However, it was Zegras’ big night that lifted the Flyers to the win.

As he has been all season, Trevor Zegras continued to be noticeable through his playmaking. You can tell he just sees the game much slower than the average NHL skater. He sees plays multiple steps ahead and puts the puck where it needs to be.
His impact up to this point in the season has been as a playmaker. In his first seven games as a Flyer, he registered five assists.
Zegras would continue that trend with his primary assist to Christian Dvorak. Matvei Michkov made a nice play to start the rush, but it was the new Flyer who patiently waited at the blueline for a streaking Dvorak, who made the big impact.
Zegras put it on the tape for Dvorak, who scored the Flyers’ first goal of the night.
Dvorak talked about how good Zegras’ vision has been postgame when talking about his goal to start the Flyers’ scoring. Dvorak said he did not need to call for the puck because he trusts his vision. “I knew he saw me. You know, he has good vision, so I trusted him. I don’t think I needed a call for that one. He put it on my tape, so it was a perfect pass.“
That was in the second period. The third period would be even better.
Once again, it was Dvorak and Zegras connecting for the score. This time, it was Zegras from Dvorak. The Flyers’ centerman made a great play to stick with the puck and eventually made the no-look feed. Zegras, who buried the shot to the upper left side of the net, just past Ilya Sorokin.
In his eighth game as a Flyer, Trevor Zergras finally had his first goal with his new club.
The third-period scoring did not stop there. It was a greasy one, but the former Duck capped off his two-goal third period with a power-play tally, pushing the puck under the pads of Sorokin. So, in a third period where the Flyers entered trailing by a score, Zegras buried two clutch goals.
His big night would not end in regulation.
No, he did not score an overtime-winner, but Zegras did score a big shootout score for the Flyers as well, setting Michkov up for the shootout-winner.
Two goals, a primary assist, and a shootout goal; Yeah, Trevor Zegras has arrived.
