Take it from The Maven, there simply has not been a hockey event like tonight's Canada-U.S.A. battle in Boston
Never. Ever!
Think about it. A month ago, the tournament was a mere afterthought to the average fan.
Now it is a singular event that surely will break all records – on both sides of the border – for tv ratings and all the other media and marketing stuff.
Really, what we're seeing – and going to be seeing – is hockey's Super Bowl crammed into TD Garden which officially can hold no more than 17,850 spectators.
"The thing that makes this game so remarkable," says The Old Scout, "is that it's impossible to predict."
Yeah, Uncle Sam won the opener, 3-1, but so much has happened – between injuries, insults and assorted other hype – that anything can happen including a rout, one way or another.
A lot has been said on both sides, but for my money the most succinct "says it all" line belongs to the Rangers' Adam Fox.
Erudite, but low-key and not known for outrageous statements, the former Norris Trophy-winning defenseman said: "This is the most jacked-up I've ever been for a game!"
Or, to put it another way, how could any hockey fan not be?
