On Thursday, U.S. men’s hockey will battle Finland in the quarterfinals of the 2025 International Ice Hockey Federation World Championship.
Three Bruins players are playing for Team USA as they continue through the tournament.
Goaltender Jeremy Swayman has played in four games, saving 67 shots with a 1.97 goals against average.
Defenseman Andrew Peeke has played in all seven games, where he collected a goal and two assists.
Fellow Bruins defenseman Mason Lohrei has played in five of the games during his debut tournament with Team USA. He also notched a goal and two assists with his time on the ice.
With elimination on the line, the U.S. have to try to break their losing streak in the tournament as their last world championship win was in 1960. Finland took the title in 2022 on home ice.
During the preliminary round, the U.S. only lost one game, losing to Switzerland 3-0. The team did have some notable blowouts, beating Denmark 5-0, Hungary 6-0 and Kazakhstan 6-1. The U.S. is ranked second in Group B behind Switzerland.
Finland also only lost one game, falling to Sweden 2-1. They are ranked third in Group A but won in a shootout against Canada who is placed first. Sweden is ranked second.
The winner of the game will face either Switzerland or Austria on May 24.
