Tage Thompson exits Olympic semifinal in US hockey injury scare – New York Post

MILAN — The Americans have their first injury scare of the Olympic tournament.
Tage Thompson was not on the bench to start the third period of Team USA’s 6-2 semifinal win over Slovakia on Friday night at Santagiulia Arena.
After scoring a power-play goal to give the Americans a 2-0 lead at the end of the first period, Thompson blocked a hard shot later in the second.
Team USA said Thompson’s exit was for “precautionary reasons.”
After the game, coach Mike Sullivan indicated he expects Thompson to be ready to go for the gold medal game against Canada.
“We held him out for precautionary reasons more than anything,” Sullivan said. “We held him out for a lower body injury. So, we’ll see how he recovers, but I would anticipate him being ready for game time.”
Making his Olympic debut, Thompson — who was left off USA’s 4 Nations Face-Off squad — has recorded three goals in five games.
