Stars vs Lightning Best bet: Under 5.5 (+110)
The Dallas Stars and Tampa Bay Lightning have both settled in recently after up-and-down starts to the season. They’re playing solid defensive hockey, and their goalies are starting to look like themselves as well.
Dallas has allowed just four goals in its last three games, including a shutout win last time out, and the Lightning have allowed three goals or fewer in each of their last eight contests. That includes three total goals in their last two games.
It will be Jake Oettinger vs. Andrei Vasilevskiy in net on Thursday night. Vasilevskiy already has a Vezina Trophy to his name, and many think that it’s only a matter of time before Oettinger gets one himself.
The standard Under 6.5 is being offered at a steep -140, so I’ll take the Under 5.5 at +110 instead. I don’t see more than four or five goals being scored, and I think we’re looking at a 2-2 tie after 60 minutes.
Nikita Kucherov was injured for two games for the Lightning, but he’s back, and he hasn’t missed a beat. He’s riding a six-game point streak with six assists in that span. There may not be many goals, but Kucherov will be involved.
Wyatt Johnston was held to just one shot on goal last time out, ending his five-game streak with at least three shots on goal. He has 3+ SOG in seven of his last nine games and routinely gets several total shot attempts per game.
The Stars have hit the Under in 26 of their last 49 away games (+4.50 Units / 8% ROI). Find more NHL betting trends for Stars vs. Lightning.
