Stars take their second straight on Sunday
Dallas has won two straight games over Colorado and Winnipeg after losing two straight on the road to Chicago and Carolina. On Sunday, they edged the Jets 3-1 thanks to three straight goals after getting down 1-0 in the first 3:16. Mason Marchment scored the winning goal with 7:37 left to play, which was his eighth of the season. On the negative side, Dallas went 0-for-5 on the power play and now is 12.9% at home with the man advantage.
Goaltender Jake Oettinger got his fifth career assist on the Marchment goal and made 26 saves to go 9-0-0 at home this season.
Dallas sits in third place in the Central Division of the Western Conference with 30 points. They are six points behind Winnipeg and Minnesota. Center Matt Duchene leads the Stars with 12 goals and 15 assists, while Marchment adds 10 goals and 14 assists. Since it’s the second of a back-to-back, expect the Stars to go with Casey DeSmith, who is 2-4 with a 2.81 GAA and an 0.891 save percentage.
Overall, Dallas is excellent defensively, allowing 2.6 goals per game and 27.2 shots against. They rank 24th in the power play at 17.3% but 7th in the penalty kill.

Utah looking for a rare winning streak
You know most expansion teams are going to take their lumps. The Utah Hockey Club is coming off a dominating performance on Saturday, crushing Vegas 6-0 on the road after losing the previous night to Edmonton in overtime 4-3. Nick Schmaltz (had 2 goals) and Michael Carcone scored their first goals of the season, while Barrett Hayton contributed two assists.
Utah is missing goaltender Connor Ingram (6-4-3, 3.61 GAA), who is out due to an upper body injury. Jaxson Stauber made 29 saves against Vegas in his first start and recorded the team’s first-ever shutout. Before the game, Stauber posted a .930 save percentage through seven games in the AHL with the Tuscon Roadrunners.
However, the Hockey Club is expected to go with Karel Vejmelka, who is 3-6-1 with a 2.4 GAA and 0.917 save percentage. Clayton Keller leads Utah with seven goals and 15 assists, while Dylan Guenther adds 10 goals and 11 assists. Overall, Utah averages just 2.7 goals per game and 26.5 shots. They rank 24th in the power play at 16.7% and 26th in the penalty kill at 75.9%.

Insiders Status:
Dallas hasn’t had many back-to-backs, but I’ll go with him because they are the better team. They also have a pretty good goaltender in DeSmith, who is a 33-year old veteran. Even if he’s not been at his best in his last two outings, the Stars have a good enough offense where they average 4.0 goals per game over their last five to help out the defense. Utah opened the season winning three straight and they have not won two straight since then. There’s a reason why they are an expansion team because they are one of the worst teams in the league.
Insiders Status:
This is a high totals and I know Dallas has been an over team lately, but in the last eight games, they are 3-4-1 Under. Utah is 3-1 Under in their last four, despite scoring six goals on Saturday. Utah has scored six goals twice in their last 10 games, but also has been shut out twice and has scored 3 or less goals in seven of those 10 games.
