After dropping Game 1, the Dallas Stars have posted back-to-back overtime upsets to take a 2-1 series lead into Saturday’s Game 4 versus the Colorado Avalanche. We make our best Stars vs. Avalanche prediction ahead of the action from Ball Arena at 9:30 p.m. ET (TBS, Sportsnet).
Dallas is trading as a +145 underdog on the moneyline. Still, we like the chances of veteran Jamie Benn and former Av Mikko Rantanen leading the visitors to another upset victory as we make our NHL picks. However, Colorado captain Gabriel Landeskog could have something to say about things in his second game back after missing nearly three years to injury.

✅ Against the spread pick: Stars +1.5 (-160 via Caesars) ⭐⭐⭐

✅ Over/Under pick: Under 6 (+100 via FanDuel) ⭐⭐
When the Stars began this series on a seven-game losing streak and without key regulars like Jason Robertson and Miro Heiskanen, not many bettors liked their chances. Things looked even worse after a 5-1 Colorado victory in Game 1.
However, after snapping an eight-game skid with a dramatic 4-3 overtime victory in Game 2, Dallas built on that momentum with an impressive 2-1 OT win as a +160 underdog Wednesday in Denver. Although the Stars needed a third-period goal from Jamie Benn to tie the game and force overtime, they looked like a much more confident team from the get-go, outshooting the Avs 14-5 in the opening period. They also killed a four-minute penalty shortly before Tyler Seguin’s OT winner.
Now that Dallas has righted the ship, this looks like anybody’s series. Even though the Stars have held the lead for just over a minute through the first three games, Colorado has recorded only one more shot on net than the Stars. Dallas is also extremely comfortable on the road, going 23-16-3 this season, and it’s possible that Hieskanen could return as early as Saturday night.
It’s possible that the Avalanche are the team lacking confidence. Although they scored five goals in Game 1, three of those goals came in the final seven minutes, one of them into an empty net. Colorado went 0-for-6 on the power play in Game 3, and the Avs haven’t scored more than two regulation-time goals in five straight at home.
Add up all of those factors, and Dallas should be extremely live for another upset in Game 4 and a 3-1 series lead. I love the moneyline value of Stars +158 at Caesars, but Dallas +1.5 -160 is another solid option given Colorado’s recent scoring woes at home.
✅ Best bet: Stars Moneyline (+158 via Caesars)

Rantanen has had to endure a lot this season, being traded from his longtime Colorado team to the Carolina Hurricanes, then to Dallas, and now finds himself facing his former Avs teammates in the playoffs. Those challenges have been reflected in his performance on the ice, where he produced just 22 points in 27 games after the Four Nations break.
However, Rantanen showed some promising signs in Game 3 that he is finally feeling comfortable again. He led the Stars with five shots on net – the fourth game in a row he’s hit the target at least three times – and he picked up a key assist on Seguin’s overtime winner.
Look for Rantanen to build on that momentum with another strong performance in Game 4. Being able to get plus money on Over 2.5 shots makes that my favorite Rantanen prop for Saturday, but his +240 anytime goal price at BetMGM is worth considering as well.

As important as Game 3 was, the biggest story from Wednesday night was Landeskog’s return to action after missing nearly three years to extensive knee problems.
Landeskog quickly proved that he’s capable of giving his team more than an emotional lift. The Avs captain led Colorado with six hits, and the Avalanche badly outchanced Dallas during the 13 minutes that he was on the ice.
I’ll bet on him making an even bigger impact in Game 4, now that he’s got a game under his belt and could see more ice time. He should get time on Colorado’s power play unit after the Avs went 0-for-6 with the man advantage in Game 3. A $10 wager on Landeskog to earn a point pays $12.60 at DraftKings.

Benn snapped a 19-game goal drought by providing a huge marker in Game 3, tying the score 1-1 midway through the third period. It was his second point of the series, and the third time in five games that he’s hit the scoresheet dating back to the regular season.
Just like the Stars regained their confidence after ending their eight-game losing streak with a win in Game 2, finally finding the net should ease the pressure on Dallas’ veteran captain going into Game 4. Don’t forget, Benn has come up big plenty of times in the postseason before, ranking 23rd among active players with 79 career playoff points.
As of Friday morning, FanDuel (+146) was offering the best price on Benn Over 0.5 points, but DraftKings and bet365 are also strong options at +145.
