Soccer, field hockey, and volleyball games to watch this week in the Bayside South – DelmarvaNow.com

The second week of fall sports in the Bayside Conference is set to begin Sept. 15, as the new season is fully underway heading into mid-September. And as the season continues to roll along, there will be more big games to follow among some of the conference’s top teams.
This week is certain to have some big games across sports like volleyball, soccer and field hockey, as a group of defending champions face early season tests and challenges in the form of fellow contenders, local rivals and rematches of some of the biggest games of last season.
Here are some games to watch during this week of Bayside South fall high school sports:
Sept. 16 | 5 p.m.
The Parkside Rams have been the team to beat in Bayside South volleyball in recent years, winning the Bayside South in each of the previous two seasons. One of the main teams that have challenged them during that time has been the Decatur Seahawks, and they will face off on Tuesday in an early season Bayside South clash.
Parkside won both matchups against Decatur last year, as they were on their way to being unbeaten in Bayside South matchups. With Decatur at home for this game, they’ll try to change that on Tuesday.
Sept. 17 | 5:30 p.m.
The James M. Bennett Clippers have been the kings of Bayside Conference boys soccer for each of the last two years, winning back-to-back Bayside titles in dominant fashion. This year, they’ve continued their trend of fast starts to seasons, winning all three of their games against Washington, North Caroline and Pocomoke. They’ve won those games in dominant fashion as well, scoring 21 goals in three games while only conceding 3 on the other end.
On Wednesday, the Clippers will head out on the road to face Queen Anne’s County in a rematch of last year’s Bayside Conference title game. Alongside their usual Bayside South rivals like Parkside and Stephen Decatur, the Queen Anne’s Lions will be another one of the top teams this season looking to take the Bayside crown away from Bennett. This will certainly be one of the bigger boys soccer games this September.
Sept. 19 | 4 p.m.
The defending state champion Pocomoke Warriors kicked off their season with a dominant 9-0 over St. Michaels last Monday, cruising to victory as they look to retain their Class 1A crown by seasons end. They’ll also look to return to the Bayside Conference title game this year, as they just missed out on a conference title game appearance last year to Worcester County rivals Stephen Decatur.
The team that would defeat Decatur in last year’s Bayside title game were the Queen Anne’s Lions, who have been a consistent contender not just in the Bayside Conference, but also as one of Maryland’s best field hockey teams. Much like Pocomoke, long state playoff runs have been common for Queen Anne’s in recent seasons. This early season matchup between these two teams will certainly feature two of the best that the MPSSAA has to offer in high school field hockey.
