The Sheridan Hawks Junior Hockey Team had some trouble staying consistent this past weekend.
The team won on Friday at home vs. Gillette 8-1, but lost on Saturday at home vs. Rapid City 2-1 in overtime.
In Friday’s game Jameson Clark scored 4 goals for the cause.
Head Coach J.J. Santagata says Sheridan has split their last 4 games and the team is not at 100%.
“We had a lot of guys out with injury, illness, so it’s kind of that time of the year honestly right now for us where Saturday night comes around, we have a good game Friday night, I think we take a team a little bit too lightly, we come out with no jump, we decide to play when its 3 minutes left in the 3rd period and we score a goal, so at that point it’s too late, so it’s just about consistency right now, we haven’t found honestly a groove in our game, 2 games in a row for awhile now, so I think that’s something that we got to just be mindful of and pay more attention to.”
The Hawks conclude their 8-game homestand this weekend with games vs. Butte both tomorrow and Saturday.
The puck drops in both games at 7:30pm.

The Frontier Division leading Sheridan Hawks flexed their muscles at home on Friday night, stapling eight goals to the scoreboard on their way to a seven point win over the Gillette Wild.
The Hawks’ offense was relentless in Friday’s tilt, posting a whopping 59 shots, which included a hat trick and four points from Jameson Clark.
The win is Sheridan’s fifth in its last six contests and kept them six points ahead of second-place Helena for the top spot in the Frontier Division, which downed Bozeman Friday night.
The offense scored early and often for the Hawks. Daniel Shelden got things going for his squad with a goal just eight minutes into the contest.
Clark notched his first tally of the night with 8:24 to go in the first, followed up by another from teammate Caden Gleason just 42 seconds later to give Sheridan a 3-0 advantage after 20 minutes.
Gillette finally found a response just under three minutes into the second period to cut the Sheridan lead to 3-1.
The two goal differential lasted just under six minutes, as Shelden notched his second goal of the night to restore Sheridan’s three-goal cushion.
Clark added his second goal of the game with just 1:18 left in the middle frame to send the teams to the intermission with the Hawks up 5-1.
Sheridan kept its foot on the gas right out of the gate in the third period.
Clark completed the hat trick just over a minute into the period to extend the lead to 6-1.
Goals from Sheridan’s Deagan Watson and Jeff Slivon later in the third period rounded out the explosive 8-1 win for the Hawks.
Sheridan goaltender Wyatt Knott pocketed the win with 29 saves on 30 shots for a 0.967 saves average.
Unfortunately for the Hawks, the team just couldn’t seem to get it going on Saturday night in their contest versus the visiting Badlands Sabres.
The Sabres completed an upset victory in overtime by a final score of 2-1.
The Hawks thought got a consolation point for the overtime loss and remain several points ahead of second-place Helena, who defeated Butte on Saturday.
The teams played a tightly-contested first period, with Sheridan narrowly holding the edge in shots at 12-8.
Despite the shot’s advantage, Badlands found the only offense of the period just under nine minutes into the frame via the power play goal, gaving the Sabres a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes.
Similar to the first period, the middle frame saw the teams in a close battle.
Sheridan sent 17 shots on Badlands goaltender while the Sabres put 16 shots on Hawks goaltender Otto Reinhart.
Kelly and Reinhart turned all 33 combined shots aside to send the game to the final frame with the same 1-0 Badlands lead.
It took Sheridan all the way down to 3:32 remaining in the third period to finally find the equalizer when Elijah Farris’ sixth goal of the year sent the game to overtime.
However, 57 seconds into overtime the Sabres managed to sneak one by and end the game with a 2-1score.
Despite the loss Reinhart had a great showing with 33 saves on 35 shots.
Next weekend the Hawks host the Butte Irish in a two game series at the Whitney Rink in the M&M’s Center on Brundage St in Sheridan.
Friday night is the Hawks annual Food Bank Friday for the Thanksgiving Holiday.
There will be free admission with a donation of a nonperishable food item valued at $10 or more.
