Our experts have Senators vs. Sabres betting predictions and best bets for 10/14.AP
The 2022-23 NHL season is in full swing, and the Buffalo Sabres begin their quest for the Stanley Cup on Thursday, October 13. They’ll kick off their season at home against the Ottawa Senators. The Sabres and Senators were separated by just two points in the Atlantic Division last year, but neither team made the postseason. However, Thursday marks a fresh start for both franchises and an opportunity to start the season on a strong note.
Our experts have broken down both teams’ offseason moves and provided a prediction and best bet.

The Senators were one of the most active teams over the summer, while the Sabres will be leaning on their young core to lead them to a better season. With another season under their belt, they’ll likely be able to do so, but it’s too difficult to ignore the significance of the offseason acquisitions made by the Senators.
Ottawa brought in two incredible wingers, Alex DeBrincat and Claude Giroux. DeBrincat worked side-by-side with Patrick Kane on the Chicago Blackhawks, and Giroux helped the Florida Panthers achieve the best record in the NHL. Along with all of their returning skaters, we predict a close game, but our Senators vs. Sabres prediction is on Ottawa’s money line.

Our experts believe the Senators can take down the Sabres this Thursday, just as they did in two of their three meetings last season. In their two most recent matchups, Ottawa has outscored Buffalo 8-1. Now that the Senators bolstered their roster with an elite goal-scorer and one of the wingers in terms of assists, they should repeat those performances.
Giroux was the captain of the Flyers before heading to the Panthers last season, who were the highest-scoring team in the NHL. Although the Blackhawks did not have a great year, DeBrincat recorded 78 points in 82 games. With Drake Batherson being healthy to start the season, they can put serious pressure on Sabres goaltender Craig Anderson.

Anderson was one of just a handful of regular starting goalies with a sub-.900 save percentage, and he was the primary reason the Sabres allowed the eighth-most goals per game last season. Not only did Buffalo not address their goaltending situation, but they also did not add much to their goal-scoring ability either.
Sabres fans should be excited for the first overall pick in the 2022 NHL draft, Owen Power, but it remains to be seen how much development he will need. He’s going to have to work with Tage Thompson and Jeff Skinner, who are volume shot-takers. Unfortunately, they aren’t the most efficient in terms of finding the back of the net with those shots.
With the Senators bringing in so much established talent, our experts anticipate they can overwhelm the young skaters on the Sabres.
