Here’s why I’m backing the OVER bet below in my Sharks Wild free pick & gambling prediction for this matchup.
As the NHL regular season gets rolling, the San Jose Sharks visit the Minnesota Wild at Grand Casino Arena. The Sharks stumble in at 1-5-2 after another sluggish start. Meanwhile, the Wild aren’t lighting up the standings either, sitting 3-5-1 and desperate to steady the ship in the Western Central Division.
San Jose head coach Ryan Warsofsky is searching for a spark as his club continues to struggle in both conference and divisional play. Although they notched a wild 6–5 win over the Rangers, it’s been mostly pain since — including a humbling loss to the Devils. Sitting 15th in the conference isn’t what anyone expected, and the Sharks need a real jolt soon.
Conversely, Minnesota’s John Hynes is in the same boat, steering through choppy water early on. The Wild were embarrassed by the Utah Mammoth but did bounce back with a solid win over the Rangers. Still, inconsistency remains the theme, and fans are starting to get antsy.

The oddsmakers aren’t buying into a Sharks upset. Minnesota sits as the heavy favorite at -217, while San Jose backers get +180. Bettors clearly see the Wild as the safer play, given their home advantage and recent dominance in this matchup.
San Jose, however, has shown signs of life. They stole that thriller against the Rangers but continue to struggle in tight games. Their 1-5-2 record tells the tale — plenty of effort, not enough execution. This one could be make-or-break for Warsofsky’s early-season narrative.
Meanwhile, Minnesota needs a stabilizer. That brutal loss to Utah raised eyebrows, yet their recent home win over the Rangers injected some confidence.
Sitting at 3-5-1, the Wild will try to cash in on home ice and punish a Sharks team still searching for rhythm.
To begin with, the Wild are a mixed bag statistically. They’ve scored 22 goals (12th overall) and tallied 40 assists (15th), but their real weapon is the power play — 11 goals with the man advantage, best in the league.
Defensively, they’ve been physical, ranking 10th in hits (200) and 9th in blocks (142). Their 265 faceoff wins show hustle, though giveaways (120, 4th most in the league) continue to sabotage momentum.
Individually, Matt Boldy and Kirill Kaprizov are carrying the load, each posting 11 points through nine games. Rookie blueliner Zeev Buium is adding punch from the back end with seven points (1G, 6A).
Goaltending? That’s where things get dicey. Filip Gustavsson has eaten rubber all month — 200 saves, 23 goals allowed in seven starts.
Jesper Wallstedt has been sharper in limited action, logging 50 saves and one win in two games.
At first glance, the Sharks’ record doesn’t flatter them, but they’ve been in some battles. They eked out that 6–5 win over the Rangers, surrounded by losses to the Devils, Islanders, Penguins, and Mammoth.
This group needs consistency — fast.
Rookie phenom Macklin Celebrini continues to impress with 12 points (5G, 7A) in eight games. Will Smith (8 pts) and Dmitry Orlov (7 pts) provide solid support, but the depth scoring has yet to fully arrive.
Between the pipes, things are shaky. Alex Nedeljkovic owns the lone win in four starts, while Yaroslav Askarov remains winless despite 114 saves. The Sharks’ defensive lapses haven’t helped either netminder.
Still, there are glimmers of hope. San Jose’s power play ranks fourth in the league with seven goals, showing they can cash in when given the chance. Offensively, though, they rank just 11th in goals and assists — too middle-of-the-pack for a team constantly chasing the game.
San Jose Sharks vs. Minnesota Wild bottom line: Given Minnesota’s dominance in this matchup and their elite power play, it’s hard to justify backing the road dog.
The Wild should skate away with another W.
Here is my Wild Sharks free pick. Both teams have been involved in plenty of high-scoring affairs lately, and that trend doesn’t look ready to stop. In fact, their last three games each have soared past the total goals line, signaling that defense is optional when these two hit the ice.
After all, the Wild have lost by three or more goals in three of their past five contests, while the Sharks have fallen by at least two in three of their last five. These defensive lapses aren’t just bad luck — they’re structural problems that open the door for more scoring opportunities on both sides.
Simply put, when both teams can’t defend, bettors should look to the over.
Additionally, the current total is set at 6.0, which lines up perfectly with the recent numbers we’ve seen. Both squads are leaking goals, and each has enough offensive spark to keep that scoreboard busy. Therefore, this shapes up as a game where multiple goals from each side are not just possible — they’re probable.
All things considered, the Over 6 is the smart play. Expect fast-paced action, shaky goaltending, and plenty of red lights flashing at Grand Casino Arena tonight.
