The Eastern Conference wild-card race has featured plenty of twists, and there’s still almost a quarter of the schedule remaining. Two teams that are battling meet in Ottawa tonight when the Senators clash with the Detroit Red Wings.
Our Red Wings vs. Senators prediction and picks anticipate a postseason-like atmosphere, as we feature Brady Tkachuk, Lucas Raymond, and Tim Stutzle. Will Tkachuk give the visitors their sixth-straight loss? Or will Raymond help Detroit extend its three-point lead for the second wild-card spot?
Tonight’s puck drop is set for 7:30 p.m. ET (Amazon Prime Video) from Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa, Ont.
Here are my best Red Wings vs. Senators predictions and player props for tonight’s NHL matchup with my pick confidence based on a 1-to-5-star scale. Be sure to check out the rest of our NHL picks along with our guide on how to bet on NHL.
As of Monday afternoon, the Senators were -160 favorites to beat the Red Wings (+145) in tonight’s NHL matchup from Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa, Ont. I’m predicting the Red Wings will win, snapping their five-game losing streak in a showdown with six goals or fewer.
The moneyline kept moving slightly toward the Senators during the hours before puck drop, and it now sits at -180 through some of our best sports betting apps. The goal total also shifted from 5.5 to 6 throughout the day
Currently, 55% of the action is on the Over, while the Senators are getting 72% of the moneyline wagers.
Here are the latest Red Wings vs. Senators odds and betting lines from our best live betting sites.
I can’t overstate the importance of Monday’s contest in the nation’s capital. If the Senators win, they’ll be up five points on the sliding Red Wings with only one head-to-head contest remaining.
The critical nature of the bout is one of the primary reasons I expect a game with six goals or fewer. It would buck both teams’ recent trend, with five of the last six Ottawa games seeing at least seven goals, including the previous four. Three of the last five Red Wings’ games had seven goals or more.
While my prediction is going against the grain a bit, their previous two head-to-heads this season had three and five goals. Neither team can afford to play loose, and the Red Wings will be desperate to reinforce things defensively after allowing 21 goals in the last five games, nine of which came in the previous two.
While the Sens have scored more recently — 17 in the last four — they only scored eight in the previous five prior to that run, and are tied for the fifth-fewest per game (2.52) in the 29 contests since Dec. 22. Meanwhile, Detroit has mustered the eighth-fewest goals per game since Jan. 18 (2.63).
I expect a playoff-like tilt from a pair of desperate teams, with the Red Wings winning 3-2.

Tkachuk is playing like a man who has never featured in the postseason. Highly focused, energized and ready to bust through walls if required, Tkachuk is on a five-game goal-scoring streak, netting six. He had two in the last game against the New York Rangers, including the overtime winner.
He has four goals in his last five games against the Red Wings and scores more regularly on home ice, where he has lit the lamp 15 times. bet365 offers the most competitive price of our best sportsbooks.
Best odds: +120 via bet365 ($10 to win $12)
Raymond broke his five-game scoreless streak on March 7 against the Washington Capitals with two helpers. Before the recent drought, Raymond had five assists in the previous five games. He’s also been streaky of late, enjoying runs of games while consistently producing offensively.
He has 23 assists in the last 28 games, which would be 23 in 23 if we exclude the recent five-game barren patch. I’ll take my chances on him notching at least one apple.
Best odds: -115 via bet365 ($10 to win $8.70)
Stutzl has 45 assists in 62 games and leads the Senators in helpers, nine ahead of second-place Jake Sanderson. He’s flying lately, too, posting at least one helper in 12 of the last 13 games. His 11-game assist streak ended against Chicago on March 5, but he lit the lamp that night, extending his point streak to 14 contests.
The -115 odds at bet365 imply a 53.49% probability. Considering he has .92 assists per game in the last 13, I’ll take those odds every time. He also has nine assists in 12 career games against Detroit.
Here are the latest injuries for tonight’s Red Wings vs. Senators matchup, which will update in real time.
The injury lists for both teams are relatively short. Detroit’s Andrew Copp (pectoral) and Ottawa’s Nick Cousins (knee) are the only confirmed absences tonight, with both players on injured reserve. The one player whose status remains up in the air is Senators defenseman Travis Hamonic, who is listed as day-to-day with a lower-body ailment.

The Senators are the -180 moneyline favorites against the Red Wings.
The total is set at 6 goals. At Caesars, the Over and Under are both trading at -110.
