Very rarely does a honeymoon period last in perpetuity. Just ask the Detroit Red Wings, who are reeling after a sensational stretch during Todd McLellan’s early days in charge.
They’ve lost eight of the last 10, working themselves out of an Eastern Conference playoff spot. McLellan’s clipped Wings face the Vegas Golden Knights at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday at 8 p.m. ET (ABC), hoping to end a five-game road losing skid.
Our Red Wings vs. Golden Knights prediction and player props feature Pavel Dorofeyev, Alex DeBrincat, and Jack Eichel while expecting at least six goals.
Here are my best Red Wings vs. Golden Knights predictions and player props for tonight’s NHL matchup with my pick confidence based on a 1-to-5-star scale. Be sure to check out the rest of our NHL picks along with our guide on how to bet on NHL.
As of 6 a.m. ET, the Golden Knights are -220 favorites to beat the Red Wings (+180) in tonight’s NHL matchup from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. I’m predicting a Golden Knights victory in a game with six goals or more.
Here are the latest Red Wings vs. Golden Knights odds and betting lines from our best live betting sites.
The Red Wings are running out of time if they’re going to end their eight-season playoff drought. Things aren’t looking good for McLellan and his men, who haven’t won on the road since Feb. 25. Five straight setbacks in enemy barns have the Red Wings four points back of the final playoff spot with 13 games remaining.
Detroit hasn’t played since Tuesday, so they should be as fresh as they are desperate. The Golden Knights aren’t playing their best hockey, losing four of the last six. However, Bruce Cassidy’s team, who are among the Stanley Cup odds favorites, is a different beast under the bright lights of T-Mobile Arena.
They’ve won six of the previous seven games in Vegas, scoring 19 in the last four. And they’re coming off a dominant five-goal explosion against Boston on Thursday. The Red Wings allowed four goals or more in six of the last 10 games, with the same 60% of contests going Over 5.5. goals.
Petr Mrazek is 6-3-0 against the Golden Knights, so I’d be surprised if McLellan doesn’t start their recent acquisition. While he shut the Golden Knights out in a 3-0 win last week, Mrazek allowed five goals on 15 shots the last time he played in Vegas a few months ago as a member of the Chicago Blackhawks.
That evidence points to goals, and DraftKings has the best price at our best sportsbooks for six or more.

Dorofeyev is enjoying the best goal-scoring since he turned pro four years ago, netting six goals in the five games, including a hat trick on Thursday. Scoring six goals on his last 17 shots, Dorofeyev has a shooting percentage of 35 in the previous five games.
On an aside, I’m also keen on his Over 2.5 shots prop. Dorofeyev leads the team with 30 goals and is benefitting from playing on the first power-play unit, where he lit the lamp twice in the last five.
Best odds: -135 via bet365 ($10 to win $7.41)

DeBrincat has been one of the most reliable players in the league in terms of his shot production over the last month. He’s hit the Over in eight of the last 10 games and three in a row. In that 10-game stretch, he’s averaging 4.7 shots. In the two exclusions to the rule in that time frame, where he had one shot against Buffalo and Carolina, DeBrincat fired nine attempted shots.
Best odds: -125 via BetMGM ($10 to win $8)

Eichel notches more assists than an Instagram influencer’s post frequency. He has 61 assists in 67 games, including 13 in the last 10. He posted two helpers against Boston two days ago and has at least one apple in nine of the last 10 encounters. Only four players have more assists than Eichel, and he is even more prolific on home ice, with 34 in as many games.
