Two Central Division foes whose Stanley Cup odds are longer than U.S. Route 66 clash when the Chicago Blackhawks and Detroit Red Wings play at the United Center on Wednesday (8 p.m. ET, TNT).
While the Red Wings have won three straight against the Blackhawks, the latter are entering the contest in better form. Chicago won three of its last four, while the opposite is true for Detroit, which comes in as the marginal favorite.
Our Red Wings vs. Blackhawks prediction is banking on a letdown performance from Chicago after a successful yet grueling road trip.

The Blackhawks endured a start to the season most expected after losing seven of their first nine games, including four straight. However, they’ve been turning their performance around recently while relying on opportunistic scoring and a level of resistance few thought the team possessed.
Despite being outshot 40-21 in Los Angeles, the Blackhawks escaped with a 4-3 shootout victory. It was déjà vu the following night in Anaheim, with the Ducks dominating proceedings while outshooting the Blackhawks 40-29 and finishing with a 5.09 to 3.4 expected goals advantage.
There was clear fatigue after the team played five road games in nine days. The game in Anaheim occurred on Sunday.
It feels like a perfect letdown spot for Chicago after expelling so much emotion and energy on its successful road trip. It’s also time for their recent game script to get turned on its head, resulting in the Blackhawks losing despite carrying much of the play.
The Red Wings lost one and then won one before losing two. Then they won three straight before a three-game losing skid. Detroit snapped that losing streak against the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday.
With three days in between games and their recent knack for winning consecutive contests after enduring a losing streak, I like the Red Wings to win their second straight and fourth consecutively against the Blackhawks.
Cam Talbot was superb against the Buffalo, finishing with 2.2 goals saved above expected. He’s logged the fifth-best goals saved above expected (5.5) and is 3-1-1 with a .923 save percentage. The veteran started well with the Los Angeles Kings last season too, winning 12 of his first 17 starts with a .933 save percentage.
Plus, Patrick Kane returns to the city where he’ll be forever a hero. That’s an ominous prospect for the Blackhawks.
A winning $10 bet will profit $8.

Best odds: +225 via Betway | Implied probability: 30.77%
Kane registered four shots, a goal, and an assist during his only other time playing against the Chicago Blackhawks at the United Center. This is more of a situational pick, as I expect Kane to put on a show for a United Center crowd used to seeing him light it up for the Blackhawks.
The forward has only recorded two goals in 11 contests thus far. But wouldn’t it be fitting for him to add to his impressive United Center tally? I also like the Over on his 2.5-shot total, but the +105 odds are too short considering he’s only achieved that feat three times this season.
A winning $10 bet would profit $22.50.
Red Wings-Blackhawks predictions made Wednesday at 11 a.m. ET.
