Much like the actual games on the ice, one of the most anticipated elements of each new hockey season is the debut of EA Sports latest hockey game. Along with a bunch of cool new graphics and cutting-edge technology advancements, there’s typically one topic that becomes fertile ground for debates: player ratings.
On a recent Kings Of The Podcast episode, Shane Malloy spoke about some of the factors going into the calculations in previous years.
Recently, EA released the 2025-26 ratings for 10 players per team. Among the 320 guys on their list, it’s no surprise Connor McDavid sits No. 1 with an overall score of 97. Right behind him in the top 10 are Leon Draisaitl, Nathan MacKinnon, and Nikita Kucherov — who all received overall scores of 96. Another trio tied at 95: Cale Makar, Aleksander Barkov, and Quinn Hughes. Rounding out this elite group with scores of 94 each are Kirill Kaprizov, Jack Eichel, and David Pastrnak.
Collectively, as a team, the 2025-26 Kings have an overall rating of 87. This is comprised of an offense that received a score of 90, while the defense was rated 89 and goaltending had a score of 83.
More specifically to the netminding, Darcy Kuemper’s rating of 87 tied him with five other goaltenders fighting for spot No. 10 on the overall goalie ratings. With tiebreakers, he finished 14th.
For those unfamiliar with how the individual player rantings are put together, each player is rated in the following six categories:
– Acceleration
– Speed
– Deek
– Pass
– Slapshot power
– Wrist shot power
There are also additional attributes and tendencies assigned to players. In part, this is designed with NHL EDGE tracking data. Using Adrian Kempe as an example, he’s designated as an ‘X-Factor Player’ in NHL 26, with a playing style listed as ‘sniper.’ Kempe’s three ‘Superstar Abilities’ within the game are Quick Pick, Quick Release, and Wheels.
When it comes to the six attributes listed above, Kempe is rated: – Acceleration (ACL) 92, Speed (SPD) 92, Deek (DEK) 90, Pass (89), Slapshot power (SLP) 87, Wrist shot power (WSP) 87.

Here’s how the overall ratings turned out for the 2025-26 LA Kings:
1. Adrian Kempe (88)
2. Anze Kopitar (80)
3. Drew Doughty (88)
4. Darcy Kuemper (87)
