The Blue Ridge Bobcats of Wytheville, Virginia, won their first Federal Prospects Hockey League postseason game in franchise history on Tuesday night.
Five different players scored goals in a 5-2 victory over the Baton Rouge Zydeco in a Continental Division Wild Card Game in front of 1,438 fans at the Hitachi Energy Arena.
Mike Mercurio (New Hartford, New York) scored first for the Bobcats, while Denis Radchenko (Belarus), Daniel Klinecky (Czech Republic), Carson Andreoli (Toronto) and Danny Martin (Ottawa) also scored goals in the win.
Blue Ridge went 28-21 in the regular season in finishing fourth in their division in the franchise’s second season of existence.
The Bobcats host the top-seeded Carolina Thunderbirds on Friday in Game 1 of a best-of-three FPHL Continental Division quarterfinal series.
