Portland gained a split in the 2 preseason games in Everett, beating Seattle 5-4 on Sunday on a goal by Kayd Ruedig with 21 seconds left, 18 seconds after blowing a late 2-goal lead. The lineup wasn’t a lot like least season’s, but the style of win was–taking advantage of special teams and winning late.
It was a more experienced lineup than they had Saturday, when they lost the preseason opener 7-0 to Spokane. We’ll see what they do in the rematch. They’ll have to negotiate a 3-games-in-3-days weekend, moving down to Kennewick for the last 2 games.
We have a newly-named arena. Spokane Arena, on its 30th birthday yesterday, got a naming rights sponsor for the first time. So the final game under the old name was Game 5 of the league championship series in May.
They have quite a bit of depth on their roster, and it’s showed in blowout wins over Portland and Seattle. They get hit a little bit by players going to NHL camps, but not a lot compared to their lineup against Portland last week.
Their first regular season game against Portland is November 8.
