Penn State Hockey was able to outlast UConn Hockey in the second round of the NCAA Men’s Hockey Tournament, defeating the Huskies 3-2 in an overtime shootout.
After UConn took an early lead in the fist period with a goal from Joey Muldowney, Penn State Hockey was able to answer with a goal of its own from Dane Dowiak.
The two teams would then trade shots in the second period, then entered a stalemate for the entire third period, and just about all of overtime.
Both teams’ goalies, Callum Tung and Arsenii Sergeev, had stellar nights, seeing a combined 85 shot attempts come their way.
In the end, the Nittany Lions regained their rhythm first, with Matt DiMarsico taking the charge for a goal in the last few minutes of overtime, securing the program’s first ever Frozen Four berth.
