It’s always intriguing when a pair of Stanley Cup odds contenders collide.
Wednesday’s game between the Florida Panthers and Los Angeles Kings from Crypto.com Arena (10 p.m. ET, TNT) is even more intoxicating because it pits the league’s best home team against the fourth-best on the road.
The Kings are magisterial on home ice, winning nine of the last 10, with their only loss coming against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Meanwhile, the Panthers have won six of the last eight on their travels.

Darcy Kuemper, who should start, elevates his level on home ice. He allowed more than three goals just once in eight starts at Crypto.com Arena and has a .929 save percentage and a 1.98 goals-against average. The latter is among the top five for those with at least eight home starts.
Kuemper allowed one goal against the Tampa Bay Lightning in his last start in Los Angeles and shut out the New Jersey Devils in the preceding contest.
He let just seven slip past him in his previous six starts, three of which were against the Seattle Kraken on the road. And it’s not like he faced insipid offenses, with Edmonton, Tampa Bay, New Jersey, and Winnipeg on the hit list.
Extending on that narrative, the Kings have the best goals against on home ice (2.11), and eight of their last 12 games had five goals or fewer.
Frankly, I have no idea what to expect from Florida on any given night. I don’t think anyone does, including Paul Maurice. They have, however, been excellent for the most part in enemy barns.
And, at least recently, the Under has hit more often. Three of their last five on the road had five or fewer goals.
And I expect them to tighten things up against one of the finest outfits the Western Conference has on offer. The Panthers allowed six goals in the last five wins. If that version shows up, the Kings will have all sorts of difficulty mustering offense.
And in unfriendly confines, the Panthers are the best version of themselves more often than not. A winning $10 bet will profit $9.09.

With 23 goals in 44 games, Kempe leads Los Angeles in goals. That’s good for a share of the 10th-most goals in the NHL. He’s enjoying the best goal-scoring stretch of the campaign, lighting the lamp in seven of the last nine games, including three on the bounce.
His 18.3 shooting percentage is a career-best, and he’s facing a Panthers team with the 15th-ranked road defense, allowing 3.04 goals per game. A $10 winning bet will profit $15.
